Orlando, Florida

So here I am in Moab, reading friends post on their blog and thinking maybe I should post something, as I have not for quite a while.

I just got back from Orlando, Florida. We were there so Ken could attend the National Safety Council (NSC) Meetings. He was the recipient of the NSC Distinguished Service to Safety Award (DSSA). It is the highest award the NSC can give to an individual. He was nominated from his division and won the award. I am so proud of him.

To make the trip even more enjoyable, all three of his daughters and their families came down too! It was a great event with the first part of the trip celebrating the birthday's of two of our grandchildren at the DisneyWorld area of parks. Kara and Zane were born two days apart the same year. We sure had fun.

Family Reunion July

The weekend of July 24 Ken and I went to Panquitch, Utah for my family reunion. Our reunion is always up at Panguitch Lake. We had a good time visiting with family we only see once a year. My cousin Bobby Drake always comes up from California. He is a magician and he does a show for us. Most of the young children do some form of talent and then we have a bar b que after.

We headed to Moab the next day and traveled the back roads on Highway 12. This has been voted one of the most scenic byways in the US. We went thru Red Canyon first. It is very striking with the evergreen against the red rock.

Then on to Capital Reef National Park. After a brief stop there we headed to Moab. Of course when we go to Moab, I was home. Ken still had a three hour drive to Montrose, Colorado.

Moab, Utah

It is so dark here in Moab. Our community has a "lights out". There are no street lights or house lights on at night. The benefit here is that you can see so many stars especially when the moon is not out. We just got back from a trip to West Valley City. It was fun to see the boys and to shop. We hit both CostCo and Sam's club, stopped in at Kohls and then picked up pizza for dinner. Sunday we went to church in our old ward. It was good to see everyone. We got me home and unloaded in Moab but on the way back to Montrose, Ken got a flat tire in the Honda and had to put the little "donut" spare on. It takes quite a bit longer to go 40 mph than 65 mph. At least he got off the road safe and is now home safe and sound.

Jordan and Sara Visit

Last weekend Jordan and friends Sara, Katie and Trent came down to stay with me in Moab and play in the desert. They had scheduled a lot of activities. They arrived Friday and promptly left for Arches National Park. Saturday Marcy and I took them up to Left Hand on Millcreek and let them jump off the ledges into the water hole below. Photo is of Sara jumping. They left later that afternoon to complete their tour of Arches.

Saturday evening we had a nice lasagne dinner cooked by Marcy.

Sunday was their day on the river. They had a tour with Moab Adventures to do some white water rafting. Ken and I went to church and afterwards headed up the river to see if we could get a few photos of them. They were always on the go. Sunday they took Ken and I out to dinner at Zax's. Monday the left for Salt Lake City. It was good to have them here.

Left Hand

Yesterday my friend from work took me up to Left Hand. It is a beautiful canyon with water falls and swimming holes near Moab, Utah. I was terribly out of shape but I managed to get up to the swimming hole. This is my friend Marcy with her daughter Iryss. We had a blast.
Marcy jumped off the falls into a pool at the bottom. It looks like fun. Were I a little younger I might have tried it.

This is my first blog. I have many friends who have blogs and I so enjoy reading them and keeping up on everything they are doing that I'm going to give it a try.
